Prof Panjab Singh is presently the chancellor of the Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agriculural University, Jhansi, Chancellor, Manglayatan University, jabalpur and President of the Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture and Rural development. Prof Singh, a noted Agricultural Scientist and academician, has been serving the Govt. of India at various levels and has been Secretary, Dept of Agriculture Research and Education (DARE), and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Prof Singh has served as Vice Chancellor and Director in four major Universities and research Institutes including famous Indian Agricultural Institute (Pusa Institute), New Delhi and great among universities like Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, Jabalpur. Besides Prof. Singh been with the FAO of United Nations and headed the crop sector while being located at FAO regional office for Asia and Pacific in Bangkok (Thailiand). Prof. Panjab Singh has been the leader and member of several high level delegations, teams, scientific bodies, search and nomination committees etc, both at the national and international levels. This indeed has given him a wide range of experience of working with various systems within and outside the country.
Prof. Singh accomplished his Ph.D. in 1965 from the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA in Cytogenetics and Plant Breeding as major with Botany and Plant Pathology as minor subjects. From January, 1966 to December, 1967, he worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the team of Dr. A.T. Wallace, Head, Plant Sciences, University of Florida. Thereafter, he came back to India and started his professional career as a Pool officer from December, 1967 to December, 1968 in the Department of Agricultural Botany, Govt. Agricultural College, Kanpur. During 39 years of his teaching and research career, Prof. Singh carried genetic investigations on induced mutations and monosomic analysis in oats; cytogenetical analysis in peas, pearl millet, chickpea and safflower, induced mutations at low seed moisture levels in wheat, barley, rice, lentil and their utilization in crop improvement; pesticide- induced mutations in barley and their implications; cytomorphological and biochemical differentiation in Cicer species; development of rust resistance as well as alkalinity/salinity resistance in wheat, downy mildew resistance in pearl millet; genetic analysis of yield and yield traits in wheat, peas French bean, maize and rice; characterization of gene pools in French bean and rice and genetic improvement of wheat, rice, pea, chickpea, French bean, safflower and green gram. Over a dozen varieties have been released under his team leadership in wheat, rice, pea, rajmash, mung bean and safflower, commendably recognized far and wide.
Dr. Singh obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from IT, BHU in 1987. Dr. Singh was appointed as Professor (Agril. Engg.) cum Chief Scientist in Department of Farm Engineering in February 1991. In March 2006, he was appointed as Director of Institute of Agricultural Sciences, BHU. As an Agricultural Engineer in Dryland Research Project Dr. Singh developed several popular equipments and technologies for the farmers of Eastern UP like Malviya Multi-Farming Machine, Dryland Weeder & Low Lift Pump and many more. Dr. Singh has over 100 wide ranging publications in reputed Journals. He has authored 6 books, edited 3 books, authored 7 technical bulletins and many chapters in different publications and handled more than a dozen research projects. He served as elected and nominated member of various national level advisory committees some of which includes Member, Governing body of ICAR, Standing Finance Committee of ICAR and Executive Council – Sikkim Central University. Dr. Singh is recipient of various awards and fellowships like Dr. Rajendra Prasad Award of ICAR, Canadian International Development Fellowship, CIDA-ICAR Commendation Medal and many more.
Dr. Rajesh Singh is currently working as Public Relations Officer of Banaras Hindu University hails from Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh. Born to a farmer in 1967. Dr. Singh has long and diverse experience in the field of communication and journalism with specialisation on agriculture. He is a postgraduate and doctorate in agriculture. He also holds a postgraduate degree and doctorate in communication as well. For nearly one and a half decade he worked with a number of leading national media houses, both print and electronic, in various capacities. He joined Banaras Hindu University as Assistant Public Relations Officer in 2006. His passion for issues related to agriculture keeps him occupied with various activities concerning farming community. As a communication professional, Dr. Singh is known for his penchant for clarity, credibility and concern for accuracy.
Dr. Umesh Singh is presently the Training & Placement Officer of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and facilitates the process of placement of students passing out from the University besides collaborating with leading organizations and institutes in setting up of internship, career guidance and training program of students. He also liaises with various industrial establishments, corporate houses etc which conduct campus interviews and select graduate and post-graduate students from all disciplines. He did PG and Ph.D from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and has more than 14 years of experience in administration of programs, project management (planning, budgeting & financial management) human resource management, organizing national/international level distance learning seminars, organizing expert lectures/workshops etc. He is also Member Secretary/Program Coordinator (Committee constituted at the University level) to look after the various kinds of need based training programs for Administrative Officers/DDOs/Heads of units and other employees of the University.
Dasharath Singh did his Bachelor degrees in Education (L.D. University, Rohtak) and Physical Education (BHU, Varanasi) and Master in Social Science (Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi) and served as sports teacher in Central Schools in different parts of the country including north eastern region. He did mountaineering and yoga courses and organised various sivirs and programs for training students and others. He earned national and inter-university championship in volley ball during his student and service career. He hails from a rural back ground and as such has been thickly associated with farm and rural development activities although.
